Bill to Increase Mainstream Employment Signed Into Law

State Director of The Arc Wisconsin, Lisa Pugh, and others worked tirelessly on Wisconsin Assembly Bill 625,  that was signed into law Wednesday, March 28, 2018 to witness Governor Walker signs the landmark Employment First bill into law.  Now known as Wisconsin Act 178, this law requires requires state agencies coordinate the hiring of individuals with developmental disabilities into community based job.  As one of the state’s most prominent voices in protecting the rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in Wisconsin, The Arc Wisconsin has been a leading force behind this bill that will ensure more people with disabilities are employed in Competitive Integrated Employment (employment in the community at typical wages).

Senator Tom Tiffany (R-Hazelhurst) and Representative Jimmy Edming (R-Glen Flora) led this charge saying individuals with disabilities should be able to work at sheltered workshops and regular places of employment.  Way to go and congratulations to all of us!
